WATER SOUNDS

Watercolor, sandpaper, non-woven fabric collage with acrylic on canvas

4 1/2 ft. h x 5ft. w 1978

The first time I swam in the Caribbean, I saw the clarity of the blue/green water of the Bahamas which inspired this abstract painting. After stretching the canvas when I returned, I carefully mixed the specific blue acrylic color. I tore the watercolor, sandpaper, non-woven fabric forms with my hands after they had been painted and cemented them to the surface of the canvas.

Restored 2021 for display at Capital Community College, Hartford, CT. It was exhibited for the first time at the Montclair Art Museum, NJ.
